Job Description
Oversee and manage the daily operations (close, reconciliations, external reporting) of the accounting department by guiding team members, collaborating with key stakeholders, and designing and implementing process improvements.
This position is focused on core insurance accounting, revenue recognition, claims expense, and agent commissions related to insurance policies, not responsible for corporate / general accounting (e.g., payroll, AP, or invoice processing).
Key Responsibilities
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and analyses for accuracy and consistency.
- Supervise and develop accounting staff; delegate and balance workloads to meet deadlines.
- Ensure accounting controls and reconciliations are completed timely.
- Research and implement new accounting standards or business processes.
- Prepare and review audited financial statements and related disclosures.
- Coordinate with internal, external, and regulatory auditors.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting for complex or new transactions.
- Recommend and implement process and system improvements.
- Lead or participate in special projects related to insurance accounting.
Qualifications
7 or more years of experience (Preferred), including at least 3 years of supervisory experienceBilingual in English and SpanishStrong technical accounting skills, including GAAPProficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel (vlookups, hlookups, pivot tables) and WordEffective writing, problem solving, communication and leadership skillsThorough knowledge of accounting and financial reporting systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Peoplesoft)Ability to resolve conflict and empathize with othersAbility to represent the department and contribute to executing company objectivesHigh degree of initiative, mature judgement and discretionOrganization and time management skillsWhat We Offer
