The Body D&R Engineer will be responsible for the engineering, design, development, timing and production release for BIW components and related body-in-white systems from initial design concept through full volume production.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering, design, development, timing and production release for BIW components and body exterior systems (e.g., Body-in-White, Body closure, fascia, underbody, cladding, bearings, lighting, fixed glass, wipers, and related assemblies).
- Work on components such as floor panels, side panels, roof panels, A / B / C pillars, front / rear subframes, frame / rail systems, doors, hood, and trunk lid / tailgate.
- Collaborate on joints and supports, including suspension mounts, structural reinforcements, crossmembers, and crash energy absorption parts.
- Coordinate with design and release activities using CAD tools (Unigraphics NX, Catia V5) and Teamcenter in a production release environment.
- Apply knowledge of high-strength steels / aluminum forming, weld parameters, GD&T, DFMEA, DVP&R, and validation plans.
- Manage BoMs and support releases for mechanical and electrical components.
- Contribute to design for EMC / ESD, automotive lighting standards, and electronics specifications.
- Apply DFSS and / or Green / Black Belt methodologies where relevant; participate in BIW in-plant launches.
- Support design and development of injection molding, painting, and decorating for Class A plastics; utilize CAE / CFD where appropriate.
- Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams and present issues and decisions to upper management as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of CAN / LIN bus and circuit analysis; ensure excellent MS Office proficiency; CATIA V5 knowledge is a plus.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.3-5 years of automotive component engineering experience designing and developing BIW components.Experience with BIW components and body-related modules as listed in the responsibilities.Knowledge of composites, composite production processes, and related release experiences.Experience with OEM or supplier design and release processes.Experience with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R), and validation planning.Experience with BOM creation / edition; knowledge of casting and injection molding processes is a plus.Understanding of EMC / ESD design considerations; exposure to automotive lighting specifications is an asset.Experience with DFSS and / or Lean Six Sigma (Green / Black Belt) is a plus.BIW in-plant launch experience; familiarity with design for manufacturing and A, B, C pillar structures is preferred.Experience with exterior trim, lighting, and Class A surface design; CAE / CFD knowledge is beneficial.Strong communication skills and ability to present to management; travel and valid passport / visa as applicable.Benefits
