Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer to provide day-to-day production support for ETL processes built using IBM InfoSphere DataStage and related application components.
The ideal candidate will ensure stable, efficient, and reliable data integration operations,
deliver quick incident resolution , perform root cause analysis , and drive continuous improvements in performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and Maintain : Oversee production DataStage jobs , ETL schedules, and associated applications to ensure successful data delivery and timely job completion.
- Incident Management : Respond to production incidents and service requests via ticketing systems (e.g., Client), troubleshoot ETL / job failures, and restore services within agreed SLAs .
- Root Cause Analysis : Identify recurring issues, perform RCA, and implement preventive or corrective measures.
- Deployment Support : Manage deployment of DataStage jobs and artifacts to test and production environments following change control processes.
- Performance Optimization : Tune DataStage jobs for better performance by optimizing job design, memory usage, and parallel processing parameters.
- Documentation : Maintain accurate support runbooks , job documentation, and operational checklists.
- Cross-Team Collaboration : Work closely with developers, BI teams, DBAs, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to resolve data or system-related issues.
- Data Validation : Verify data quality and reconciliation between source and target systems, escalating discrepancies for business review.
- Scheduler Management : Support and troubleshoot job scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M, AutoSys).
- Automation : Develop and maintain scripts for automation and monitoring (using Shell, Python, or similar scripting languages).
- On-Call Support : Participate in on-call rotation, providing after-hours and weekend support during major incidents or scheduled maintenance.
- Release Coordination : Assist in deployment planning, testing, and rollback procedures for ETL and DataStage changes.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.Hands‑on experience with IBM InfoSphere DataStage (development or support).Strong understanding of ETL concepts , data integration , and data warehouse environments.Experience with Control-M , AutoSys , or similar job scheduling / orchestration tools.Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages ( Shell, Python , etc.).Familiarity with incident, change, and problem management processes (ITIL framework preferred).Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.Ability to work in a 24x7 support environment with rotating shifts or on‑call duties.Seniority Level
