Job Overview
The Senior MTO Designer completes various Material Takeoff assignments as needed and can complete work with limited supervision. They are an informal resource for colleagues with less Material Takeoff experience. The Senior MTO Designer has developed proficiency in various analytical processes or procedures for assigned tasks. They provide solutions to problems in atypical or infrequently occurring situations based on existing precedents or procedures. They directly impact the quality of the work of the team.
Responsibilities
- Setup, assist, and review the capture and issuance of Piping Material Quantification (MTOs) and / or Bill of Materials (BOMs).
- Configure the Materials Requisitioning System for the correct creation of requisitions.
- Assist, supervise and / or complete the preparation and issuance of Materials Requisitions for the discipline in charge.
- Assist, review and keep track of Materials Ordered vs. Materials needed according to the MTOs or BOMs of the discipline in charge.
- Ensure that the Quantifications of Piping Materials and / or activities developed by the discipline are in accordance with the procedures established in the department, the manufacturing sequence, the manufacturing schedule, and the Man Hours (HH) previously defined for the discipline in charge.
- Ensure that in the Piping MTOs and / or BOMs, the materials and steel grades are in accordance with the requirements and specifications of the project.
- Manage the activities and resources to meet the deliverables in the previously established deadlines.
- Ensure proper maintenance of the filing system for documents, drawings, and / or deliverables worked on by the discipline.
- Review and narrow the Project Scope of Work within the discipline in charge.
- Monitor that Lessons Learned is recorded and put into practice within the discipline in charge.
- Identify, provide and / or manage training to staff on specific techniques and / or company software.
- Assist in the review and follow-up of the Scope of Work for new proposals.
- Prepare Piping Material Quantifications (MTOs) and / or Bills of Materials (BOMs) for proposals as required.
- Familiarize with the project's Scope of Work, specifications, work program, and requirements of the discipline in charge, including identifying problems as soon as possible.
- Review, prepare and / or supplement Clarifications of the discipline in charge if required. Develop basic technical skills to complete assigned work.
- Apply own experience, knowledge, and skills to complete daily activities and / or non-standard situations specific to the job.
- Prepare clear and accurate reports and procedures.
- Reconcile and / or arrange for resolution of shortages, questions, and / or inquiries related to drawings and / or documents received.
- Reconcile changes and / or substitutions of materials that need to be made on the project.
- Control the drawings and / or documents worked and to be worked on the project.
- Assign the different jobs to be done by the team.
- Check that the Quantifications and / or Bills of Materials are being listed within the PIPING MTO format being used by the discipline in question.
- Oversee the proper uploading of PIPING MTOs and / or BOMs to the MTO system.
- Review and ensure that primary, special, additional requirements, and / or non-commercial materials are being requisitioned correctly.
- Reconcile and ensure the creation of new codes (Ident codes) for materials that do not exist in the databases.
- Identify and inform the PIPING MTO team which equipment and / or attachments will be requisitioned by Engineering directly.
- Review and inform the PIPING MTO team which Free Issue materials will be delivered by the customer.
- Reconcile the solution to SCM's doubts regarding the items described in the issued requisitions.
- Coordinate the preparation of requisitions and / or delivery of materials according to the instructions of the PMT and / or list of subcontractors on the project.
- Review and / or Support in the issuance, distribution, and maintenance of discipline deliverables.
- Manage the use of leftover materials from other projects, leftover materials from canceled jobs, and / or leftover inventory to avoid purchasing more material.
- Create Change Orders and / or Variances for scope changes and / or modifications within the discipline in charge.
- Review and track controls or reports developed by the department for control of documents worked on, materials ordered, etc.
- Assist the Leader in the preparation of PIPING MTOs for Bids, and bid proposals, including work schedules, statements of performance, and man-hour estimates.
- Participate in internal, customer, and / or third-party audits.
- Know, register, and maintain a record of the Lessons Learned and record new lessons being learned during the development of the activities.
- Develop solutions for repetitive activities to achieve time and cost savings.
- Compile the record of the documents issued by the discipline in charge to keep up to date with the metrics, history, and KPIs of the department.
- Participate in the update and expansion of the Senior PIPING MTO Designer job description and the PIPING MTO area procedures.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education :
Bachelor´s degree or technical career in Civil, Mechanical, industrial Engineering or related field.5-8 years working in the construction of Offshore Platforms and / or Onshore Structures with a major constructor, contractor, or consultantAdvanced knowledge of the English language.Knowledge in standards ASTM, API, AISC, International Construction Practices, Piping Material Specifications, Catalogues of components and / or construction materials, reading and interpretation of drawings, all Piping focusedKnowledge in Quantification, Control and Management of Piping materials.Knowledge and use of AutoCAD 2D and 3D.Advanced knowledge and use of Excel.Knowledge of Materials Requisitioning SystemsAbout Us
