Process Improvement : Defines critical workflows, identifies problems, and implements controls to improve processes; focuses on significant problems to maximize efficiency gains; surfaces systemic problems for organizational attention. Quality Orientation : Tackles root causes, eliminates non value-added activities, uses data to drive decisions, and documents learnings to enable improvement; addresses quality problems outside the group’s responsibility when needed. PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) : Assists with PPAP documentation, follows internal guidelines, and ensures approvals for new parts / products meet quality standards and customer expectations; researches applications across industries. Supplier Evaluations and Certification : Documents results of supplier references, participates in supplier selection and certification, and researches information sources for supplier reputation; assesses products or services using predefined criteria.
Overview
Supplier Development Engineer role at Caterpillar Inc. This position focuses on Machined SBQ, Rods and Tubes, ensuring supplier quality and compliance with manufacturing and legal standards. The role supports business localization in Mexico and drives supplier performance improvement to enhance operational excellence and competitiveness.
Role Definition
As part of the Steel Components Mexico team, the Supplier Development Engineer will focus on Machined SBQ, Rods and Tubes, ensuring supplier quality and compliance with manufacturing and legal standards. The role supports business localization in Mexico and drives supplier performance improvement to enhance operational excellence and competitiveness.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the quality of MSBQ, Rods and Tubes supplies through inspections, testing, and evaluation mechanisms.
- Monitor supplier defect rates and generate quality reports; guide suppliers in reducing defects and improving consistency.
- Research and assess potential suppliers, including audits of their manufacturing practices to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
- Support suppliers in performance improvement through process optimization, control implementation, and quality assurance planning.
- Collaborate with customers to develop new sources and support the introduction of new products aligned with business localization strategies.
Qualifications
Degree Requirements : A Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related degree is required.
Advanced proficiency in English is required, including strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.

Additional Information
On-site work based in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León. Travel up to 30% of the time (international and domestic). Relocation assistance is not available. Visa sponsorship is not available.
