Overview
Tesla has an exciting regional opportunity for a skilled Design Manager to join our dynamic Infrastructure Development team in Latin America. The Design Manager will lead the design and permitting phases of new Sales, Service, Delivery, and Collision facilities across the region. The ideal candidate will be based in Mexico, fluent in both Spanish and English (spoken and written), and comfortable working with the metric system. This role requires regional travel within Mexico and South America to support multiple projects and ensure successful execution. We are seeking a self-motivated professional with strong design management expertise and proficiency in Revit to drive projects from concept through completion.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the full design development process – from test fits and concept design through survey coordination, due diligence, issue-for-bid (IFB), and issue-for-construction (IFC) packages with external consultants
- Coordinate technical and business requirements from stakeholders and translate them into site-specific concept drawings
- Lead and manage site surveys, due diligence, and assessments, including utilities, load analysis, structural conditions, vehicle access, and overall property evaluations
- Conduct site walks and engage with stakeholders to confirm final scope, identify cost drivers, and propose creative solutions to retrofit or adapt sites to Tesla’s brand standards
- Manage schedules for surveys, design deliverables, and permitting with internal and external teams to ensure alignment with project milestones. Produce design concepts, presentation drawings, and detailed design documentation
- Lead the permitting process, including pre-application meetings with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ), entitlements, site plan approvals, rezoning, and conditional use permits. Review construction documents, shop drawings, and respond to RFIs to ensure consistency with design intent
- Interpret and communicate lease work letters as they relate to consultant scope. Demonstrate agility in shifting priorities to manage multiple design projects simultaneously. Perform zoning checks and apply knowledge of regional building codes. Experience with entitlement processes in Latin America is highly valued
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field, or equivalent experience with evidence of exceptional ability5–7 years of experience in retail, commercial, or industrial infrastructure projects. Experience in design management or architectural firm environments preferredStrong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and SketchUpBilingual fluency in Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate effectively across both languages, verbally, in writing, and visually through drawings / sketchesStrong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing coordination with consultantsExcellent project management, organizational, and communication skillsHighly detail-oriented with strong time management skills.
