The Tooling & Equipment Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of production tooling and equipment used in the assembly of Volvo Trucks. This role focuses on ensuring the manufacturability, safety and efficiency of tooling systems that support a world-class truck manufacturing operation.
The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in mechanical design, a basic understanding of pneumatic systems, and a proactive mindset for problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration. Knowledge of light crane systems will be considered a plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and release assembly tooling and equipment according to Volvo standards.
- Support & Procure 3D Tooling library at PDM link for MVO.
- Collaborate with LTS and TPE engineers to ensure tools meet production and ergonomic requirements.
- Generate and maintain 2D and 3D CAD models, drawings, and BOMs for tooling components.
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and tryout phases.
- Create RFQs, cost estimation, and supplier technical reviews.
- Ensure tooling safety and compliance with Volvo’s global manufacturing standards.
- Participate in equipment validation and buy-off activities (mechanical, functional, and dimensional).
- Support continuous improvement and standardization of tooling concepts.
- Interface with suppliers, maintenance, and production teams to solve equipment-related issues.
Qualifications
Education :
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.Experience :
6+ years of experience in tooling design, fixture development, or production equipment (automotive preferred).Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks).Basic understanding of pneumatic systems (valves, actuators, sensors, and control circuits).Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as welding, fastening, or mechanical assembly.Experience with equipment validation and documentation (FMEA, safety checklists, etc.).Experience with overhead light crane systems or lifting equipment is a plus.Soft Skills
