As a Staff Software Engineer (SE-4) on the Engineering Effectiveness organization, you will design, build, and evangelize platforms and workflows that decrease lead-time, boost reliability, and maximize developer joy across hundreds of product teams.What You'll DoOwn critical slices of the DevEx roadmap : developer onboarding, platform onboarding, and paved-path templates that get new workloads to production in minutes, not weeks.Design and iterate on service-catalog powered starter kits (Java API, micro-frontend, event-driven apps) backed by CI / CD pipelines and paved-path infrastructure-as-code modules.Instrument and improve quantitative metrics such as Mean Time to First Commit, Mean Time to 10th Commit, and First Production Deployment while also capturing qualitative signals like the Developer Joy Index.Embed with product teams through ride-alongs, value-stream mapping, consultations, and dojo sessions to surface friction, co-create solutions, influence roadmaps, and harden sensible defaults.Champion DevEx first principles—customer-first mindset, insight-driven decisions, limited optionality, and making the right way the easy way—across architecture reviews and community forums.Partner with Platform Engineering, SRE, Security, and the DevEx Advisory Group to ensure alignment on governance, automation, and support models.Lead inner-source contributions and knowledge sharing in the DevEx Advisory Group; publish docs, demos, and RFCs to scale best practices.Continuously evaluate emerging tools (e.g., Backstage Service Catalog, GenAI, CI / CD pipelines, etc.) and drive data-backed adoption decisions.What You'll Bring8-12 years of professional software-engineering experience with increasing scope and impact.A passion for improving developer experience; allowing developers to reach their maximum potential by giving them tools to stay in a flow state by removing obstacles.Hands-on expertise building internal developer platforms or large-scale CI / CD pipelines leveraging AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and GitHub Actions (or equivalents).
Demonstrated success measuring and moving developer-productivity metrics, using data visualization / analytics to guide prioritization.Strong coding proficiency in Java plus JavaScript / TypeScript ; ability to dive into infrastructure code (Helm, Kustomize, CDK, Argo).

This is a contract to hire position with candidates expected to work 40 hours / week.
