Description
The Project Cost Engineer (PCE) will be responsible to develop technical variable and tooling costs for several car components and systems using activity-based costing methodologies while working from BOM (Bill of Materials), drawings and / or samples. The selected candidate provides subject matter expertise to support engineering and purchasing at working levels and to executive leadership through all development phases. The Engineer must be curious, persistent and innovative. The Engineer must have the ability to analyze supplier quotes and reach agreement on appropriate EDD, Additionally, the Engineer needs to be able to interact with the team in Design to Cost initiatives and benchmarking. piece cost and tooling cost. The selected candidate must have an understanding of the elements of piece cost and investment for various manufacturing processes typical for the production of assigned commodities.
We are looking specifically for someone with experience in any of the following systems :
Interior Cockpit assemblies and components (instrument panels, door panels, floor consoles, air ducts and air vents), Body-In White, Closures, Chassis, Power Train.
Critical skills :
- Develop component level cost targets, applying vehicle top down budget allocation.
- Understand and apply reference vehicle data and Low Cost Country savings to EBOM component level data.
- Understanding of vehicle construction by systems (Body, Chassis, Powertrain, Interior, etc) and subsystems (Underbody, suspension, trim, cooling, HVAC, etc)
- Understand part break up of vehicles and how they are assembled
- Ability to identify and organize technical commodities into their functional purpose
- Identify and propose design alternatives to meet and exceed aggressive cost targets
- Lead cross functional team reviews of cost status to target, component sourcing, governance cost report outs.
Basic Qualifications :
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university or Bachelor Degree in Finance. Other educational credentials combined with relevant experience, may be consideredMinimum of 5 years of automotive industry experience at an OEM or large tier 1 to include one or more of the following areas :Engineering Program Management (Technical or Financial), including leading a cross functional teamVehicle Program Management (Technical or Financial), including leading a cross functional teamEngineering Design & DevelopmentPreferred Qualifications :
