Overview
The Therapeutic Area lead is a role within Value and Implementation Global Medical and Scientific Affairs reporting directly to the Executive Country Medical Director and is an important medical leader and point of contact for the therapeutic area-related activities for Mexico as aligned with the Latin America (LATAM) region. The Therapeutic Area lead will be the primary contact for all and will aim to strengthen internal and external partnerships to increase overall performance in areas of unmet need.
Responsibilities And Primary Activities
The Therapeutic Area lead is responsible for Medical Affairs management, including insight management, Group Input Meeting, non-promotional medical education programs, independent medical grants, metrics reports and dashboards, medical review, scientific training, Pre-License Patient Access Programs, local data generation, Investigator Studies Program, and budget management for these activities.
- Serves as matrix leadership of the country Therapeutic Area lead team to ensure bidirectional communication and implementation of Therapeutic Area lead strategy
- Is a core member of the Country Leadership Team and supports strategic initiatives
- Closely interacts with Regional Therapeutic Area Team around regional priorities
- Plans and executes Therapeutic Area budget
Cross-Functional Work
Serves as core member of country Therapeutic Area lead Human Health Commercial Business Line. Provides disease updates, scientific expertise, and insights into committeesWorks with Pricing and Market Access team to ensure added value from Therapeutic Area lead Medical Affairs with the aim of securing access for appropriate patients in the regionProvides key input to Regulatory Affairs as a part of the cross-functional team that drives input to regulatory submissionsPartners with clinical development team and Global Clinical Trial Operations, particularly in solving complex issues and ensuring strategic alignmentPartners with qualified personnel for pharmacovigilance on critical safety issues as needed (e.g., extensive additional Risk Minimization Measures)Is a key stakeholder in designExternal Stakeholder Engagement
Drives and leads relationships with key medical / health societies in MexicoCollaborates with Therapeutic Area lead cooperative groups across the country / regionEstablishes and manages relationships with top Therapeutic Area lead key scientific leaders across the countryCollaborates with the policy team to develop external interactions with governments and other stakeholders as neededInnovation and Digital Solutions

Minimum
Master degree, with clinical degree (medical training, residence) in related medical specialties (internal medicine, cardiology, immunology, infectology)Extensive people management experienceExtensive background in the Therapeutic Area lead (5 years minimum either in clinical settings or the pharmaceutical industry)Strong communication skills and ability to influence senior stakeholdersDemonstrated organizational skills, including ability to set goals and align prioritiesStrong business acumen, ethics, and credible reputation with the external scientific communityDemonstrated creativity and effectiveness in addressing strategic challengesAn entrepreneurial mindset and ability to think outside the box with cross-functional collaborationAbility to manage a highly complex matrix organization comfortablyEnglish advanced / fluentPreferred
