What will you do:

We are looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to join the implementation phase of a Data Governance programme at a community bank. You will own the full data journey: from ingesting raw data out of source systems into a landing zone, through transformation layers, to the final KPIs and dashboards consumed by business stakeholders.

You will be provided with a Data Dictionary / Data Requirements document (DDR) that maps source tables and columns to target KPIs. Domain knowledge of banking is not required — what matters is your ability to read a spec and build reliably against it.

• Design and build ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest data from multiple source systems (core banking, mortgage origination, payment processors, external APIs)
• Implement Bronze / Silver / Gold data layers following a medallion architecture on Azure
• Write and maintain data transformation logic (Python / SQL / Spark)
• Build KPI definitions and data models from provided DDR specifications
• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports connected to the modelled data
• Implement basic data quality checks and monitoring at each pipeline stage
• Document pipelines, data models, and transformation logic

What would you need to succeed:

• 3+ years building production ETL/ELT pipelines
• Strong SQL and Python (PySpark a plus)
• Hands-on experience with Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, or Microsoft Fabric
• Power BI — including data modelling (DAX, relationships, calculated measures)
• Comfortable working from a DDR / data dictionary without requiring business context coaching
• Experience with REST API ingestion & export
• Familiarity with medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold)
• Proactive and self-managed — you take ownership of your work, flag blockers early, and don't wait to be told what to do next
• Adaptable — you are comfortable working in an evolving environment where requirements, priorities, and tooling decisions may shift during the engagement
• Continuous learner — you actively seek to improve your craft, pick up new tools or frameworks when the project demands it, and don't treat your current skillset as a ceiling
