Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Consultant is part of the primary care team and under the supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health. The primary purpose is to work in conjunction with the health services to provide behavioral health and health consultation to children, adolescents, adults and families to improve psychosocial functioning and overall health outcomes. This position demands the ability to interact with federal, state, and local agencies to maximize resources and coordinate program development goals. The Behavioral Health Consultant is involved in continuous quality improvement practices and measures set by Mainline Health Systems, Inc., and practice focus is based on a Patient Centered Medical Home model of care.

Responsibilities

• Consult with patients and assist the PCP with assessment and co-management of target problems.
• Conduct assessments (diagnosis) and brief, focused interventions and / or consultations geared toward early identification, triage, quick resolution, and long-term wellness.
• Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions.
• Assist in the direction of “at risk” patients and develop plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
• Provide timely and succinct feedback to PCPs about all referred patients.
• When not in the primary care clinic, be readily available to the PCP by phone during usual duty hours to provide consultation.
• Maintain a small caseload of patients providing short-term psychotherapy services utilizing evidence-based practices.
• Assist with referrals to other services (e.g., substance abuse treatment facilities, specialty care, community resources) as needed.
• Support expansion and enhancement of the integrated behavioral health program.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of services provided to each patient.
• Adhere to applicable regulatory guidelines and laws, including HIPAA / HITECH, CLIA, HRSA, and OSHA.
• Provide reports and updates to the COO as assigned in a timely manner.
• Serve as part of the care team; follow and implement workflows that support and sustain the MHSI Patient Centered Medical Home model of care.
• Participate in all Risk Management activities as assigned.
• Ability to travel for activities such as meetings, classes, and / or conferences; must be able to travel by air as needed to attend training and related activities, including overnight travel.
• Other duties as assigned by the COO.

An office environment in a controlled atmosphere building. This is an OSHA low‑risk position.

Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the Behavioral Health Director.

Evaluation

Annual evaluation performed by Behavioral Health Director.

Status

This is an FLSA Exempt position. This is an OSHA low risk position. This is an ADA negotiable position. This is a safety sensitive position (Arkansas Act 593 of 2017).
