We seek a Rector for the unique and enriching opportunity at St. Paul’s Anglican / Episcopal Church in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. St. Paul’s is an active congregation located in the UNESCO World Heritage City of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Per our Parish Mission Statement, “We are called at St. Paul’s to receive and share God’s accepting Grace, challenging Wisdom and transforming Love. Attending to the practice of our faith, we strive to honor the people of our larger community, making a useful difference in Christ’s name.” We are seeking a dynamic Rector who shares our deep commitment to liturgy as well as pastoral care and who can help lead our congregation to realize the full promise of our faith and our growth as a parish.
The rectorship of St. Paul’s offers a unique opportunity for several reasons. First, our location in San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico provides many ways to engage your faith and experience and support cultural offerings.
Second, our congregation is particularly diverse, vibrant and fluid. Our parishioners include permanent residents who are primarily from the U.S. and Canada, part‑time and seasonal residents and English‑speaking tourists who stay in San Miguel anywhere from one week to six months. We have a growing number of young families with children and a growing number of our parish who are Spanish‑speaking Mexicans and who attend the Spanish and / or English services. Our parish is very inclusive and welcomes all people, including gay parishioners and same‑sex couples.
Third, because our parishioners have such a wealth of life experiences and engagement, our congregation has a very deep level of community involvement and service. Historically, the parish has either been the sole sponsor or collaborated with other NGOs on projects focused on education and day care, feeding the hungry, health care services in rural areas, providing clothing and food for families throughout the year and toys for children for Three Kings’ Day in the poorest communities, forming a youth orchestra, teaching pickleball and building a court for children at a local orphanage, providing haircuts to the elderly, providing free English classes to Spanish speakers of all ages, teaching sewing to a group of Mexican women, helping women in the campo (rural communities) with cooking and baking businesses, and supporting students as they progress through their education from high school to college.
Our goal is to find a Rector who can lead us in faith, provide pastoral care for the congregation, help us grow our parish, including families with young children and teens, assist us in strengthening our financial stability and planning our church building expansion, and continue to strengthen our ties and commitment to our community.
While our parish is primarily English‑speaking, we have a growing Spanish‑speaking congregation. It is critical that our next Rector has a cross‑cultural understanding and a level of Spanish language competency.
