We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Local Controller to lead the finance and accounting functions for our growing Mexican subsidiary, ensuring financial health and integrity across operations in Mexico.
Position Summary
The Local Controller is the senior finance leader in Mexico. Responsibilities include all aspects of accounting, financial reporting and compliance, ensuring accurate and timely reporting in accordance with Mexican and US GAAP, managing local tax and regulatory requirements, and providing strategic financial insights to support the growth of our retail operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the full accounting cycle from general ledger to the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with Mexican GAAP (MX GAAP) and US GAAP (US GAAP).
- Consolidate financial data from the Mexican subsidiary for the US parent, including reporting packages and detailed variance analyses.
- Manage all accounting functions : accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
- Maintain the general ledger and financial records with accuracy.
- Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data accuracy.
- Lead all tax‑related matters, ensuring accurate and timely filing of Mexican federal and state tax returns (IVA, ISR, payroll and social‑security).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external audits, regulatory bodies, and internal audit teams.
- Provide strategic financial guidance and recommendations to local leadership to drive profitability and operational efficiency.
- Oversee the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for the Mexican market.
- Identify and implement efficiencies in accounting and financial processes using technology and best practices.
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize inter‑departmental workflows.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of finance and accounting professionals.
- Ensure payroll processing complies with Mexican regulations.
Tax & Compliance
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Mexican tax law and financial regulations.Stay informed of changes to Mexican tax law for proactive compliance.Operational & Strategic Finance
Provide strategic financial guidance to local leadership to improve operational performance and profitability.Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including store operations, HR, and merchandising.Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Mexican CPA strongly preferred.Experience : 7–10 years of progressive accounting / finance experience, including 3–5 years in a Controller or senior financial management role; retail industry experience is a significant advantage.Knowledge : Expert knowledge of MX GAAP and US GAAP; strong understanding of Mexican tax laws and statutory reporting requirements.Skills :Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is mandatory.Advanced skills with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP) and high proficiency in Microsoft Excel.Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.Proven ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization and a cross‑cultural environment.Location & Reporting
