Overview
We are looking for multiple Mechanical Design Engineers to work on Instrument Clusters and HUD in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Design Engineer will have full responsibility through conceptual to test and should have experience in thermal analysis and CAE.
Responsibilities
- Support the lead engineers in the design of automotive instrument clusters (IPC) and head-up displays (HUDs), create 3D models and 2D drawings including GD&T for all structural components, considering DFM / DFA, cost, material & component specifications, and other design factors.
- Maintain open issues related to design developments during various stages of the development phase and develop contingency plans as needed.
- Conduct optical design and simulation using light simulation software.
- Perform engineering calculations and stack-up analyses as part of design development deliverables.
- Record and track accurate meeting minutes for customer-related meetings.
- Conduct structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis using FEA; perform lighting analysis and optical design / simulation using internal tools and light simulation software.
- Provide post-development technical / design support during pre-production (PV testing, root-cause analysis, 5-Phase report) and production preparation (quality, assembly, process-related areas).
- Provide technical / design support to assembly plants and suppliers related to quality and design aspects.
- Execute customer design changes and update internal design deliverables and documentation.
- Interface with customers to understand design requirements during design specification / styling development and product development; compile specification confirmation reports prior to development.
- Support the lead engineer in conceptual design, BOM development, design feasibility studies for RFQ responses, and technical presentations.
- Develop DFMEA, DVP, and conduct failure analysis / 5-Phase report creation.
- Participate in-vehicle checks at customer locations during pre-production to evaluate design integrity and identify flaws, compiling summary reports.
- Perform benchmark analysis, attend trade shows (e.g., NAIAS) and compile market trend analyses of IPC / HUD products.
- Assist in prototype development during build trials and support manufacturing, quality teams in resolving technical, manufacturing, and quality issues.
- Assist in testing and evaluation of IPC / HUD products as required.
- Prepare technical documents in support of quality gate assessment meetings with headquarters.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred; coursework in Strength of Materials, Statics & Dynamics, SQC, CAD / CAE, Materials, Manufacturing Principles.Related Experience
2–6 years of automotive design and development experience.Proficient with CAD - CATIA / UG.Experience with automotive structures, plastics, or optics preferred.FEA knowledge, especially vibration, thermal, linear / non-linear analyses; working knowledge of ABAQUS preferred.Experience with optical design principles; OPTIS / Light Tools is preferred.GD&T and stack-up analysis experience.Employment details
