Astellas’ Global Capability Centres – Overview

Astellas’ Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are strategically located sites that give Astellas the ability to access talent across various functions in the value chain and to co-locate core capabilities that are currently dispersed. Our three GCCs are located in India, Poland and Mexico.

Purpose and Scope :

The assistant Controller plays a critical role in enabling financial excellence within the GCC framework, operating fully under an Agile delivery model. This role ensures compliance, transparency, and strategic insight across all Mexican entities, while collaborating with cross-functional squads and external partners to deliver value iteratively and adaptively.

Financial Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure financial records are continuously updated and aligned with Mexican statutory, tax, and group reporting standards.
  • Participate in sprint reviews to validate compliance deliverables and adjust based on evolving requirements.

Control Environment & Risk Management

  • Co-create and maintain a robust control framework with internal stakeholders.
  • Embed control checkpoints into Agile workflows and retrospectives to ensure accountability and traceability.

    • Squad Leadership & BPO Oversight

  • Lead a finance squad and coordinate with BPO partners to deliver transactional accounting outcomes.
  • Facilitate daily stand-ups and sprint planning to align team efforts with financial objectives.

    • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with the Service Delivery Lead and Finance Product Owners to co-develop financial statements and reporting artifacts.
  • Actively contribute to Agile ceremonies and ensure financial insights are integrated into broader GCC deliverables.

    • FP&A Accountability (Financial Planning & Analysis)

  • Own the FP&A backlog : forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis tasks.
  • Deliver actionable insights through iterative financial modeling and stakeholder engagement.
  • Align financial planning outcomes with GCC strategic OKRs (Objectives & Key Results).

    Organizational Context

    This role is a key member of the GBS organization, reporting into the Cluster Controller and collaborating with local Commercial Finance and various functional stakeholders.

    • Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or a related field.
  • Fluent in written and spoken business English and Spanish.
  • Strong understanding of IFRS / Local GAAP and internal control standards.
  • Familiarity with local mexican statutory tax requirements (VAT, Transfer Price, Income Tax)
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with financial systems (SAP, Oracle or equivalent World Class ERP)
  • Effective communication skills across various management levels.
  • Strong financial analysis capabilities.
  • Experience in implementing process changes.

    • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Accounting Certification : ACA, ACCA, CPA, CA, or equivalent accounting qualification.
  • Background : Experience with Big 4 auditing firms preferred.
  • Industry Experience : Background in healthcare or pharmaceuticals preferred.
  • Software Proficiency : Knowledge of SAP B1 and S4 Hana.

    • Working Environment

    This position is based in Mexico and will require on-site work in a hybrid set up, willing to travel both internationally and domestically as needed.
