Lead an engineering team that partners with Linux engineers of a major silicon company, working across the full Linux stack from kernel to GUI to optimise Ubuntu, the world's most widely used Linux desktop and server for the latest silicon.

This fast-paced, problem-solving role is both challenging and exciting. The ideal candidate must be resourceful, articulate, and capable of delivering solutions across PC and IoT technologies. Our teams collaborate with engineers from leading silicon companies to integrate next-generation features and performance enhancements for upcoming hardware.

As a Partner Engineering Manager at Canonical, your role involves managing relationships with key technology partners, ensuring timely delivery of project milestones. Technical leadership and a background in software engineering are essential. You will lead, challenge, and develop engineers, influence company culture positively, facilitate technical delivery, and contribute to strategy and execution.

What you'll do

  • Lead a distributed engineering team to design and implement Ubuntu integration for the latest IoT and server hardware platforms and software stacks.
  • Engage with commercial partners to deliver an optimised, first-class Ubuntu experience on their platforms.
  • Develop your team through coaching, mentoring, leading by example, and providing feedback.
  • Oversee commercial engagements and ensure timely project delivery.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and reliability.
  • Coordinate with other Canonical teams to align on product architecture and roadmaps.
  • Work from home with global travel up to twice a year for up to two weeks.

Who you are

  • Experienced with Linux distributions, Debian packaging, and high-performance server hardware.
  • Skilled in working directly with customers, resolving technical issues, and communicating solutions effectively.
  • Proven experience managing or leading software engineering teams.
  • Familiar with agile software development methodologies.
  • Effective at collaborating across multiple teams, building trust, and delivering results.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technology field.
