Overview

Lead Golang Software Engineer, Commercial Systems at Canonical. Remote role available in the EMEA region (all teams except Ubuntu Pro) or the AMER region (Ubuntu Pro).

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems for global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in enterprise initiatives across public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We have 1200+ colleagues in more than 80 countries and offer many roles with flexible locations. The Commercial Systems unit comprises seven engineering teams that closely collaborate with other engineering and business teams. Golang plays an integral role across these teams.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with many popular software systems, integrations technologies, and open-source solutions, focusing on quality engineering and reliable delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering solutions leveraging Golang
  • Lead technical designs, code reviews, and implementation
  • Deploy and operate services developed by the team
  • Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback to colleagues
  • Develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices

What we are looking for in you

  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path
  • Track record of going above-and-beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results
  • Experience with software development in Golang
  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
  • Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long

  • Performance engineering and security experience
  • Experience with accounting, sales, sales operations, or other business roles
