Airswift is looking for a Material Technology Engineer to work in a contractor position (12 months, with strong possibility of extension) in Mexico City for a major offshore oil and gas development.
This role provides technical leadership in material selection, welding, and structural integrity for critical offshore systems. The Material Technology Engineer will act as the technical authority for the discipline, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, supporting design development, and guiding contractors through specification and performance requirements. The position also plays a key role in HSE alignment and risk mitigation throughout the project lifecycle.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and company requirements.
Monitor and describe technical integrity of systems and safety barriers.
Provide input and updates to the project Basis of Design.
Define performance standards for safe and efficient facility operations.
Oversee contractor material selection and specification development.
Support tender processes and evaluation through technical input.
Implement and manage the design verification process.
Participate in risk workshops and follow up on engineering actions.
Contribute to management of change, operations planning, and documentation.
Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, and other HSE-related reviews.
Identify and follow up on technical qualifications and procedures.
Provide input to scheduling and cost estimation, especially for material delivery and long-lead items.
Prepare relevant sections of decision support packages.
Capture and apply lessons learned from previous and ongoing projects.
Travel to contractor sites and offshore locations as required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred depending on experience.
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
Strong understanding of regulatory and international standards.
Experience across all phases of platform and subsea pipeline projects.
Expertise in material assessment, welding standards, and corrosion mechanisms.
TECHNICAL & NON-TECHNICAL SKILLS
Deep knowledge of local and international regulatory frameworks.
Experience in design, manufacturing, and fabrication of offshore structures.
Trustworthy, open-minded, and courageous leadership style.
Results-oriented with balanced focus on HSEQ, production, cost, and people.
Ability to multitask and prioritize in fast-paced environments.
LANGUAGES
Fluent in English (oral and written).
Spanish proficiency preferred.
