Overview

Seeking to hire a Contractor based out of Brazil, Argentina, or Mexico for senior-level Frontend Software Engineering Services. This is a contract role at Newsela.

Responsibilities

  • As a Senior Frontend Engineer Contractor, you will help scope, technically assess, plan, and deliver with the team to provide high-quality solutions for the signin / registration flow, manage the UI for various internal tools that deal with user management, and oversee displays and interactions related to rostering, directory, and organization of users.
  • Collaborate with the Team Lead to advise and consult on projects and the frontend impacts and updates involved.
  • Work with the Team Lead and Product Manager to scope, groom, and deliver projects related to user interfaces governed by the User Management Team.
  • Operate in a fast-paced environment to manipulate different types of content and text data in various shapes and sizes.
  • Contribute as a key member of the software development team, write quality code and automated tests to ensure design and quality of code.
  • Own delivery of features independently and provide input that helps with scoping and design. Break down work with the lead engineer, groom tickets, and organize sprints to ensure delivery.
  • Report to the Director of Engineering and collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, and Product Design to refine ambiguous goals into clearly defined, iterative work items.

Why You’re a Great Fit

  • 5+ years of experience in software development in a SaaS environment with backend developers.
  • At least 3+ years as a senior member of a team.
  • Experience building complex web applications with maintainable solutions that call various services and APIs.
  • 5 years of ReactJS experience and ability to leverage JavaScript conventions.
  • TypeScript knowledge is preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of semantic HTML, responsive CSS, and frontend design patterns to meet team goals.
  • Experience with accessibility guidelines for frontend work; AWS experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of modern web app architecture and web fundamentals.
  • Strong understanding of developer tooling and unit test writing.
  • Experience working with REST APIs and data relationships; familiarity with relational databases.
  • Experience working on a full-stack team is preferred.
  • Collaborative and inclusive mindset that supports continuous improvement through code reviews and feedback.
  • Ability to identify missing requirements early in the development cycle, deliver performant and scalable backend systems, write resilient and testable code, and meet sprint commitments.
