Position Overview
The High School Drama Teacher & Program Lead is responsible for leading a high-quality, student-centered drama program that serves high school students through coursework, productions, and program development. This role balances creative vision with strong organizational systems, clear communication, and dependable follow-through.
We are seeking an educator who values structure as a foundation for creativity, understands the realities of high school students’ academic and personal commitments, and can build a sustainable program that grows through clarity, trust, and consistency.
Teaching & Curriculum Responsibilities
- Teach assigned high school drama courses aligned to school learning goals and adopted standards
- Plan and deliver engaging instruction that supports acting, performance, analysis, and collaboration
- Develop and refine course offerings with attention to enrollment sustainability and curricular coherence
- Provide timely, accurate feedback and maintain up-to-date grading and records
Program & Production Leadership
- Plan, direct, and execute at least two major productions per year
- One musical and one non-musical
- Ensure high school students are meaningfully represented in all productions
- Create clear production timelines, rehearsal plans, and role definitions
- Coordinate scripts, rights, facilities, technical needs, and materials
- Manage production budgets, stipends, and reimbursements accurately and on time
- Collaborate with the ASFG Events team to ensure appropriate backstage and technical support
- Use rehearsal time efficiently and communicate expectations clearly, respecting students’ academic and family commitments
Rehearsals typically run from 2:45–5:00 p.m. with a limited number of extended dress rehearsal days.
The teaching schedule is adjusted seasonally to support production demands, including reduced course loads during production semesters and a first-period prep when possible due to evening commitments.
Communication & Professional Practice
- Maintain consistent, professional communication with students, families, and colleagues
- Use school-approved platforms for all program communication
- Provide predictable updates during production cycles
- Establish positive relationships with students that support both artistic growth and well-being
Collaboration & School Engagement
- Collaborate with the N–12 Performing Arts team to support vertical program growth
- Work closely with administration, facilities, and support teams
- Participate in department meetings, staff meetings, and professional learning
- Contribute to school events and co-curricular programming as required
- Support student enrichment opportunities such as festivals, workshops, or guest artists when appropriate

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Drama, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Experience teaching high school drama and directing school productions
- Strong knowledge of acting, performance, and theater production
- English fluency required
- Spanish fluency strongly encouraged
- Experience in international or independent school settings preferred
