The Staff Civil Engineer (Substations) will work on project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on high voltage substations and transmission lines projects. The Staff Civil Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting civil and structural plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Overall
- Applies strong knowledge of commonly used civil and structural engineering / design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the civil engineering services industry.
- Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of high voltage substations and transmission lines.
- Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning and construction planning. Responsible for effective management of change orders.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
- Build effective relationships with existing clients, customer and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the civil and structural engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
Project Development
Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers. Compiles studies and reports. Writes specifications.Performs and leads field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.Participate in sales and marketing efforts, and in the development of cost proposals and qualifications statements.Engineering Design
Perform civil and structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.Design civil and structural components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.Produce drawings and update them to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.Modify and review production drawings, for high voltage substations and transmission lines projects, and project related data as required by the project managers to verify design compliance with project, client, and industry standards, including constructability.Review civil and structural vendor drawings, data interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.Responsible for QA / QC process adherence.Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.Procurement
Prepare construction specifications, Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.ConstructionQuality review of the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of materials.Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.3 - 5 years of civil engineering design experience. Consulting experience preferred.Experience with design of high voltage substations and transmission lines.Experience on projects with industrial owners and / or utility companies (CFE) preferred.Strong knowledge in standard civil and structural engineering techniques and procedures.Extensive knowledge of civil and structural engineering design standards and codes applicable to projects in Mexico.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.Ability to work remotely with multi-disciplinary teams in multiple locations.Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)Strong computer skills (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and / or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil and structural analysis programs.Knowledge of discipline specific software such as SAP 2000, ETAPS, STAAD, or similar.Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
