Senior Materials Planner Job Description

The senior materials planner plays a pivotal role in ensuring the timely and efficient production of goods by effectively managing the flow of materials within the supply chain.

This involves planning, scheduling, and coordinating the procurement and inventory of raw materials, components, and finished goods to meet production and customer demand while minimizing excess inventory and cost.

• Developing and maintaining material requirements plans based on production schedules, sales forecasts, and historical usage.
• Monitoring inventory levels and adjusting purchasing plans accordingly to maintain optimal stock levels.
• Working closely with procurement, production, and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials.
• Coordinating with suppliers to track orders, resolve supply issues, and ensure lead time and delivery commitments are met.
• Analyzing demand trends, safety stock levels, and reorder points to improve planning accuracy.
• Creating and managing purchase orders and maintaining accurate records in the ERP / MRP system.
• Communicating material shortages or delays to relevant stakeholders and recommending corrective actions.
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance material planning processes and supply chain efficiency.
• Participating in new product introductions and engineering change processes to ensure materials availability.
