Software Engineering Manager, Ubuntu Gaming
Location : Remote in the Americas or EMEA. The role is focused on making gaming on Ubuntu first-class, expanding the Ubuntu gaming experience, and collaborating with open-source projects and partners to improve Ubuntu and the wider Linux gaming ecosystem.

Role overview : As the Software Engineering Manager for Ubuntu Gaming, you will work to maximise performance, security, device support, and content creation / discovery to enhance the Ubuntu gaming experience, including collaboration with upstream projects such as Proton and partners like Unity.
Location : Remote-based in the Americas or EMEA region.
Responsibilities
- Lead your team to optimise and expand the Ubuntu gaming experience, focusing on the Steam Snap.
- Manage project timelines, balancing feature improvements with deadlines.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align your team's work with other teams and company objectives.
- Conduct code reviews with emphasis on quality, performance, and modern design principles.
- Collaborate with upstream projects (e.g., Proton) and partners (e.g., Unity) to enhance Ubuntu gaming capabilities.
- Work with other teams to ensure a cohesive Ubuntu experience.
- Drive performance improvements across a wide range of hardware.
- Engage with the open source and gaming communities to gather feedback and foster collaborations.
What we are looking for
An undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about an alternative path.Proven ability to collaborate effectively with upstream projects and partners.Experience with the Linux graphics stack from user-space components to low-level kernel drivers.Exceptional software project management skills, including risk assessment and resource allocation.Ability to balance technical leadership with effective team management.Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal and external interactions.Strong planning skills with capacity to manage multi-cycle improvements.Ability to travel twice a year for company events up to two weeks long.Nice-to-have
