Silver Storm Mining Ltd. is a Toronto-based mineral resource development company, incorporated on September 22, 1980, under the Company Act (British Columbia) and continued under the Canada Business Corporations Act on July 20, 1995. Silver Storm recently completed the acquisition of 100% of the La Parrilla Silver Mine Complex, a prolific operation which is comprised of a 2,000 tpd mill as well as five underground mines and an open pit that collectively produced 34.3 million silver-equivalent ounces between 2005 and 2019. The Company also holds a 100% interest in the San Diego Project.
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the General Manager, this position will be on a full-time basis at the La Parrilla Mine, Nombre de Dios, Durango, Mexico.
Responsibilities
- In this position you will be responsible for leading all underground geology activities at the La Parrilla Mine. This includes managing the geology team, overseeing grade control, and having a key role in the reconciliation process as well as supporting both short and long term mine planning.
- Manage the mine geology team, foster a strong safety culture, and support the development of geologists and technicians ensuring that high technical standards are maintained.
- Oversee occupational health and safety, and environmental matters including adherence to all requirements applicable to Silver Storm Mining over which the individual has control.
- Manage the system for daily grade control and estimates for underground work areas. Plan and monitor underground geological activities daily.
- Oversee, manage, and validate grade control processes, drilling programs, mapping, sampling and data, including grade control systems, assay results, downhole surveys, geologic logging and QA / QC and other data collected during sampling and drilling. Ensure this information is updated regularly into required databases.
- Lead the preparation and interpretation of geological, geotechnical, and resource models. Ensure geological models are accurate, up to date, and effectively integrated into daily and strategic mine planning. Accountable for interpreting geological structures and validating the resource model.
- Compile and report on resource inventory. Prepare production data compilation for stockpile tracking and mine to mill reconciliation.
- Compile and review mapping and ore routing data with production and modelling geologists to provide quality geologic orebody knowledge to mining engineering and operational teams.
- Communicate and coordinate with the engineering and underground departments to achieve operational objectives and participate in short and long term mine planning. Review and approve geological aspects of mine plans, layouts and designs.
- Develop quarterly and annual geology budget proposals.
- Train and supervise the geology team on grade control processes, geological logging, mapping, and sampling of active faces and other exposures underground and on surface.
- Contribute to identifying exploration targets to support future resource growth.
- Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
B.Sc. or B.Eng. in Geology is required.8-10 years’ experience in exploration and production geology in an underground mine environment with 3-5 years of experience supervising geology teams.Demonstrate leadership and communication skills.Fluent in Spanish and proficient in English.Applicants must be willing to work on site at the mine on a full-time basis.Experience with modelling software packages such as but not limited to Leapfrog, AutoCAD, Datamine, GIS software, Minesight, Deswik, and Vulcan.Job Details
