About the Opportunity :
We are representing a dynamic, privately-held automotive Tier 1 that has grown from humble beginnings in 1974 into a truly global network. They specialize in the designing, testing and manufacturing of metal, plastic and hybrid structural components. They are currently seeking an experienced Director of Purchasing who will play a pivotal role in shaping their supply chain, enabling their continued growth and competitive edge in a fast-moving industry.
Why This Role Matters :
- You will be accountable for our global procurement strategy, sourcing excellence, supplier partnerships and cost-optimization across multiple material streams (metal, plastic, hybrid, aluminum).
- You will work at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and supply-chain partnering with technical teams to evaluate new material / process opportunities, and with suppliers to deliver best-in-class performance.
- You will enable our ambitious growth : we’ve expanded manufacturing footprints in North America, Europe and Asia; developed advanced manufacturing capabilities such as continuous roll-forming, automated welding and large-tonnage injection molding.
- You will uphold operational excellence, risk-mitigation and resilience in a complex environment of global sourcing, multi-tier suppliers, and evolving regulatory / industry demands.
What You’ll Own :
Develop and execute the global purchasing strategy aligned with business goals : cost, quality, innovation, sustainability, and flexibility.Lead and mentor a team of procurement professionals, setting KPIs, defining processes and building a culture of continuous improvement.Manage supplier base : qualify new suppliers, drive performance improvements, negotiate long-term contracts, monitor supplier risk and compliance.Work closely with engineering / manufacturing teams to assess new materials or process technologies, assess make-vs-buy decisions, evaluate total cost of ownership (TCO).Drive cost and value-creation initiatives : value engineering, cost reduction programs, strategic sourcing events.Oversee global commodity management : metals (including high-strength steel, aluminum), plastics, hybrid materials, indirects.Ensure supply-chain resilience : multi-sourcing, near-shoring / reshoring options, risk mitigation (geopolitical, trade, logistics).Partner with operations and finance to forecast demand, ensure alignment of procurement plans with production and capital investment.What We’re Looking For :
Bachelor’s degree (Supply Chain, Engineering, Business); Master’s preferred.At least 10+ years of progressive procurement experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably tier 1 automotive)Strong track record of global sourcing, supplier management, negotiation, driving cost savings, and leading cross-functional teams.Deep knowledge of metal and plastic commodity markets (steel, aluminum, injection molding, hybrid materials) is a significant advantage.Demonstrated ability to work with engineering / manufacturing teams — translating technology / engineering needs into sourcing strategy.Excellent analytical, communication and leadership skills. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, global environment with multiple stakeholders.Proven change-agent : you’ve implemented process improvements, digital tools in procurement, and built high-performing teams.Willingness to travel internationally (~ 20-30%) to support global sites and suppliers.About CLM
