    About the Opportunity

    Embark on a rewarding culinary journey as an Assistant Sushi Cook aboard our world-class cruise line. In this unique position, you will support the creation and presentation of premium sushi dishes for a global guest clientele, working in a dynamic, multicultural galley. Develop your sushi craft, collaborate with talented professionals, and gain international experience while ensuring exceptional guest satisfaction and upholding the highest food safety standards.

    Key Responsibilities – Assistant Sushi Cook Cruise Ship Jobs and Sushi Chef Careers at Sea

  • Assist with the preparation and assembly of sushi, sashimi, rolls, and related Japanese specialties for various onboard dining venues and special events, following established recipes and presentation standards.
  • Support sushi chef team members by preparing ingredients (fish, vegetables, rice, garnishes) for efficient production and service.
  • Participate in setup, operation, and maintenance of the sushi station and related equipment in accordance with maritime and company standards.
  • Maintain meticulous cleanliness and organization of workstations, adhering to all sanitation, USPH, and HACCP guidelines in the galley.
  • Collaborate with the broader culinary team to accommodate guest dietary requests, special orders, and menu variations.
  • Monitor food quality, freshness, and portion control to ensure consistently high standards and minimize waste.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and inclusive work environment, supporting the integration and training of junior culinary staff as needed.
  • Requirements – Cruise Ship Assistant Sushi Cook Positions and Sushi Preparation Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of professional kitchen experience, with exposure to sushi or Japanese cuisine highly preferred in a hotel, restaurant, or cruise ship environment.
  • Formal culinary or sushi-specific training is a plus; equivalent experience in high-volume food production considered.
  • Basic knowledge of sushi preparation, ingredient handling (especially seafood), knife skills, rice cooking, and food presentation techniques.
  • Understanding of food safety, cross-contamination prevention, and allergen protocols (especially relevant to raw fish and seafood).
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in fast-paced, multicultural settings, demonstrating adaptability and attention to detail.
  • Proficient English communication skills required; additional languages are valued.

  • Day-to-Day Assistant Sushi Cook Duties on a Cruise Ship – Sushi Station Operations

  • Set up sushi bar stations with necessary ingredients and tools prior to each meal or event service.
  • Prepare sushi rice, slice fish, and portion produce with precision according to standardized procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Help execute menu items to order, ensuring freshness, presentation, and guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all sushi station areas, equipment, and utensils in line with company and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in regular cleaning, set-up, and close-down routines to ensure readiness and hygiene in the sushi kitchen.
  • Additional Requirements & Qualifications – Assistant Sushi Cook Cruise Ship Careers

  • Willingness and ability to live and work onboard a cruise ship for 6–8 month contract periods, traveling internationally.
  • Valid passport and necessary documentation (such as US C1 / D visa) for embarkation and global operations.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment English language assessment and medical clearance as required by maritime law and company regulations.
