Job Description Summary
As a Sr. Embedded Software Engineer, you’ll lead and / or provide the key technical direction of several large projects with substantial Aerospace impact. The Staff Embedded Software Engineer supports internal and external customers, and suppliers, and utilizes experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to affect short-term and some long-term business goals.
Aerospace Embedded Software activities, including all phases of the Software Development lifecycle : Requirements definition, Design, Implementation, and Validation following the highest standards for critical Software.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Staff Embedded Software Engineer will work with the Engines Embedded Software Team in the Controls Systems Organization; main responsibilities include :
- Work within the guidelines of applicable GE Policies and Procedures, Engineering Standards for Critical Software.
- Identify the scope of the work, provide initial estimate and justify the estimate with facts
- Demonstrate understanding of Agile software development lifecycle and distinguish core inputs and outputs in each cycle.
- Engage in technical discussions; participate in technical designs and present ideas through white boarding.
- Execute in a fast-paced delivery mode and focus on delivering tasks to meet the product release goal
- Maintain code quality through best practices, unit testing and code quality automation
- Seek and provide feedback on design and development
- Demonstrate the ability to make informed technology choices after due diligence and impact assessment
- Understand the whole product, its modules and their interrelationships while being an expert in the assigned component or module
- Help in designing interfaces and information exchange between modules
- Articulate the need for scalability and understand the importance of improving quality through testing
- Write code that meets standards and delivers the desired functionality using the chosen technology
- Drive design reviews, define interfaces between code modules, and apply existing technology to designs
- Assess application performance and optimize / improve it through design and best coding practices
- Be an expert in core data structures and algorithms and implement them using the chosen language
- Provide technical leadership and define, develop, and evolve software in a fast-paced, agile environment using the latest software development technologies
- Provide guidance to a team of 5 to 7 developers with planning and execution and / or design architecture using agile methodologies such as SCRUM
- Collaborate with Product Line Leaders (PLLs) to understand product requirements and vision
- Write code that meets standards and delivers the desired functionality using the selected technology
