Role Summary : As an Intermediate SRE at GitLab, you will ensure the smooth operation of all user-facing services and production systems. You will blend pragmatic operations with software craftsmanship, applying engineering principles, operational discipline, and automation to enhance our environment and codebase.

Responsibilities :

  • Design and implement scalable networking infrastructure supporting GitLab platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on infrastructure projects.
  • Respond to incidents during your on-call shifts and participate in reviews.
  • Lead initiatives from problem definition to project completion.
  • Act as subject matter expert in networking and rate limiting services.
  • Automate operational tasks to improve efficiency.

Qualifications :

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform, especially networking (VPCs, load balancers), GKE, and scaling.
  • Proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, Chef, and Kubernetes ecosystem including Helm.
  • Programming skills in Ruby or Go.
  • Knowledge of network protocols (TCP / IP, HTTP / HTTPS, DNS).
  • Familiarity with network observability tools and scripting languages (Ruby, Go, Bash).
  • Experience with GitLab CI or similar tools.
  • Strong problem definition and proactive automation mindset.
  • Ability to work independently with strong communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for varied daily tasks, from project work to emergency responses.

    • Team & Environment : The Production Engineering Foundations team manages GitLab's networking infrastructure, supporting one of the largest single-tenancy open-source SaaS instances. We focus on automation, reliability, and scalability, building paving roads for rate limiting and edge networks.

    Compensation : Salary range for residents in eligible locations : $103,600—$222,000 USD. Salary and grade level are determined based on experience, education, and market data.
